What's inside
69 groups
8 major race and ethnicity groups, 33 Asian origins and 28 Hispanic or Latino origins.
Six levels of detail
State, county, metro area, city, ZIP code and census tract. The map changes level as you zoom.
Honest about uncertainty
Every number comes with its margin of error, and estimates too uncertain to rely on are hatched on the map.
Compare two groups
Colour each area by the ratio between two groups to see where each community is relatively larger.
About the data
U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020–2024 5-year estimates, released December 2025: the most recent data for small areas. Boundaries: Census cartographic boundary files.
Two counting systems are used and never mixed. The 8 major groups and the Hispanic/Latino origins are mutually exclusive: each person is counted once. Asian origins are counted "alone or in any combination": someone who reports two origins is counted in both, so Asian origin figures overlap and cannot be added up.
ACS figures are survey estimates, not a full count. The map shows each estimate's 90% margin of error, and hatches any estimate whose coefficient of variation is above 40%.
